Cold was the night this fallen leaf encountered as it lay among the autumn discards of its neighbouring oaks and beeches. The elegant finger of green that brought life to the sweet chestnut that bore it through spring and summer now lies drained of active colour and frilled with frost following a sub-zero February night. Come the spring these remnants of former glory will donate their goodness to the ground beneath and help begin again the circle of life they dance with all that live and die.
