as it waits in silence
for breeze above or
fish below to ripple

vanity of existence

I’d always associated them with warm waters, so that’s interesting, Noelle. We have no native UK turtles, but I suspect a few, kept as pets, may have escaped from homes and maybe even garden ponds. But I’ve yet to see one!

No native turtles here, Noelle. I think the water might be a bit cool for them. There was a very thin film of ice over parts of this pond when I took this picture!
But it’s lovely to imagine those fascinating creatures enjoying the place.

We have turtles here overwintering in small ponds, occasionally under ice!
