Strolling at day’s end from Janet’s Foss back to the hotel at Malham, we watched the sun slowly sink to leave a lovely winter evening sky. Just the two of us on the path at this stage in the day. Our earlier walk along the River Ribble from Settle to Stainforth had refreshed memories of our days of living in the market town, and the drive there and back had re-acquainted us with those narrow, bendy roads and their steep climbs. A brief stop at the café in Knight’s Stainforth had also refreshed our energy levels. This walk to the atmospheric waterfall in the woods and then back to the village in time for a brief rest before dinner was the perfect ending to our day.

Yes, Lynette. We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay in Yorkshire, revisiting some old haunts, and spending a couple of nights with my brother and his wife who live in the region.

I love this time of day in the winter. Sort of melancholy!

Yes, Noelle, there is a sort of melancholic nostalgia about such winter evenings. Perhaps a reminder of much earlier days spent in front of a roaring fire and wishing for spring to arrive.
