If it were possible to have lunch up there would interest me more than just looking for a few minutes. Thanks for posting.

The dining room from which the stairway leads, Brenda, also has excellent views over the city. They have an open balcony in summer, so views from there are unimpeded by window frames.

Nothing better than a ramble off the beaten tourist track.

We came across this scene, Lynette, when we climbed a rather obscure stairway we found leading up from the dining room of our hotel. It led to a sort of veranda that wrapped itself around about two thirds of the building and gave these unusual views of the backs of the buildings surrounding the place. It was a pleasant surprise to see the hidden part of the city.

Always worth exploring. We often take wanders down quiet, unlikely looking places. Amazing what you come across. Have to be careful in some locations, of course; no all ‘locals’ are welcoming of ‘intruders’!

We went on a day trip to the Alhambra when we were in Spain, and the tour guide set us free after the organised lunch, with the warning, ‘Don’t leave the site and wander up on the hills. There are some evil people up there who are happy to prey on tourists!’ Considering the honest nature of the tour guide, we decided discretion was the better part of valour and stayed on site!

That’s explicit- I think I would have followed his directions, too!

Rome, in particular, Lucy, is packed with both historic and modern buildings. And they have a music and language based lightshow after dark to inform and entertain visitors. A fascinating place!
