This continuing series of posts depicts our beautiful world, encouraging people to share them and maybe even help save our unique home planet from human carelessness and indifference.
Today’s photo was taken during our stay in Italy, where we celebrated our thirtieth Wedding Anniversary, way back in 2018. The lake is one of a series in Northern Italy, Lake Maggiore. We visited the booking office of the local ferry service to get tickets for what we hoped would be a tour of the lake. Translation of our basic Italian by the ticket vendor actually ended up in us taking a ferry ride from the port in Stresa, where we were staying, to Locarno in Switzerland and back. Not what we were expecting but, hey, we saw the lake! This was shot on our way back as the sun was beginning to descend.
There are numerous settlements around the shores of the lake, some small, some quite large. But there are also long stretches of undeveloped and natural coastline. This particular spot had a wide stretch of beach on which a few people were sunbathing, one or two actually daring the chill water that runs off the surrounding mountains.
It was an enjoyable ride.

I post every Saturday here, but also share a different picture of natural beauty at the end of most days, with the hashtag #ourworldiswonderful, on FaceBook, Threads, Instagram, and BlueSkySocial, a social media platform that is rapidly growing and taking a lot of subscribers (including me) from the now dreadful Twitter X, which I left some time ago due to the extreme right-wing abusive content. Sometimes, mistakes like that lead to the nicest surprises. Such a beautiful scene, Stuart; it looks a lot like our lakes here. Cheers.

Yes, Lynette. In this case, when the boat docked in Locarno we sat alone on the top deck waiting for it to leave. When it hadn’t moved for a while, I went down to the lower deck to get some refreshments for us. The crew were all sitting, having their lunch and seemed a little startled to see me! Apparently, the boat was not insured for passengers while stationary in dock, so we had to go ashore. As a result, we spent a pleasant hour in Switzerland, a country I hadn’t visited, and spoke to a couple of the locals. It was a pleasant diversion we would otherwise not have had.

I do, Noelle. And, unlike me, you’d brave that cold mountain stream-fed lake water. It is, at least, clear and clean.

I would love that right now. Cold clean water – what a treat! Our pool is closed and Hubs and I are confined to the house in our second week of Covid. Bah humbug.
