Oddities Observed On Outings #17

In this continuing series I’m looking at things seen when out walking. Some of the objects will be familiar to certain readers, but many are likely to be unfamiliar to most. I’m presenting those that caught my attention perhaps by their incongruity, idiosyncrasy, or simply their odd location.

This one was taken in the small Italian town of Stresa, lying on the shore of Lake Maggiore. It was our last day of the holiday we took to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary and we were wandering through the town after doing some last-minute exploring.

In the main piazza this piece of graffiti caught my eye. Isolated, and as friendly as possible, it seemed a genuine greeting from whoever had posted it on the blank wall of a building. Much graffiti is often offensive, violent, or just a part of a larger whole, so to come across this single word of welcome, Ciao, was a real pleasure.

    1. Yes, Noelle, it makes a pleasant change. We were surprised at the amount of graffiti we came across in Rome and Florence, much of it appearing very aggressive. Athens and Paris were as bad, and, to our surprise, some of the larger towns on the Greek islands.
But, I agree, some of those wall paintings are pretty impressive.
