#ScenicSaturday 1st June 2024:

This continuing series of posts depicts our beautiful world, encouraging viewers to share them and help save our unique home from human carelessness and indifference.

Today’s photo shows the full moon rising over the sea at Lyme Regis just after dusk. I loved the calm depth and deep blue of the quiet sea and the afterglow of the sky under the clear blue of the approaching evening.

What a catch for a photo! I recently took a picture of a bright red moon rising over the water north of Holden Beach. It became huge and white shortly thereafter.

    1. Thanks.
The moon often appears bigger when close to the horizon as there is something visually close with which to compare it. As it rises and becomes visually detached from the land it slowly returns to its normally seen size. At least, that’s my understanding of this phenomenon, which is always great to witness.

    1. We were in Lyme Regis and had spent the day with a sick relative there. Our evening walk took us along the seafront as the moon was rising following the sunset. It was peaceful, almost deserted, and, as you say, Liz, calming. Thank you.
