#ScenicSaturday 30th March 2024:

This continuing series of posts depicts our beautiful world, encouraging viewers to share them and help save our unique home from human carelessness and indifference.

Today’s photo shows a landlubber’s view of a rough bay on the Greek Island of Rhodes. It’s from October 2017, and I hope it’ll warm the cockles of your heart after this mixed March weather we’ve been experiencing. The building top right is the Acropolis in Lindos, a fascinating site of antiquity that stands at the top of a high cliff. Looking down from the battlements, you can see birds of prey from above, as they’re rarely seen. The rough, rocky coast is built from what appears to be mostly volcanic fallout from many centuries past. We reached this spot after a short sea trip from Pefkos in a glass-bottomed boat that took us so close to the shore we were at one time underneath overhanging cliffs. The boat’s skipper provided a commentary on coastal disasters in between serenading us on his guitar, which he claimed to have belonged to a member of Queen, though I’m pretty sure this was just a tale he told to all tourists he had as passengers.

    1. Rhodes was my first overseas destination, Lynette. We both love the island, and this was a long time after that first visit. The boat ride was a real experience, and the walk across this small peninsula was wonderful under that hot Mediterranean sun. The boat’s skipper was pretty good, too!
