#Words and #PictureOfTheDay: 14/Apr/22

A tree should stand upright tall and
reach toward the life-giving sky
but I have fallen felled by combined
weight of clinging ivy and the
violent winds of recent storms
you cannot see my grandeur now
I lay flat along the incline I once ruled
my roots remain up there tentative
in their connection to ground that
once sustained and grew me
now I intrude above the path
where humans pass beneath
with no more than a duck to
miss my outstretched boughs
and here I will remain till weather
time and decay soften and rot
what remains of me.

We live among natural wonders. Some people ignore and others actively dislike such beauty, even working to destroy the only world we can inhabit.
These daily posts are my encouragement of joy in nature, respect for the natural world, in hope of inspiring love of a planet that’s a marvel of unlikely coincidences.
Are we alone in the universe as a living species with sentience? We may never know. The vast distances in time and space involved mean we’re unlikely to meet, or even effectively communicate with, other sentient lifeforms.
So, we should live as if we’re the only life form conscious of our existence and able to modify our environment. We can do that to benefit all life forms, or entirely selfishly in the mistaken and ultimately self-destructive belief we’re apart from nature. History, science, and common sense show us daily how intricately we’re part of nature. It’s foolish and self-defeating to ignore this simple fact.
If you want to spread joy in our wonderful planet and encourage our respect and responsibility to protect it, will you share these posts on social media (‘share’ buttons below make it easy), comment with your thoughts, and help us do our best to sustain our environment for the future? After all, Earth is our only home. Thank you.

    1. We tend to get a few falls in the forest, usually following a storm, Noelle. On one occasion, however, we were walking a regular route and I heard a noise behind me, turned, and watched a tree fall on an entirely windless day. Fortunately, it fell away from us!
