Coleridge’s Ancient Mariner. Wow! I haven’t read it in a long time but I remember it well.

I read it when I was in my teens, so probably around 58 years ago.

I do not know who it is supposed to represent, except a sailor that didn’t believe the rule of never killing an albatross. It appears he is planning or giving himself back to the sea. It won’t change the fate of all other sailors.

The Ancient Mariner, Brenda. A long poem about superstition and the unnecessary killing of wildlife, which seems to be a needed reminder to so many people these days.

It stands at the entrance to a small harbour, Joni. Perhaps a warning to all sailors to respect wildlife.

It’s Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s ‘Ancient Mariner’ and the bird he’s attached to is the albatross he killed.

I think ‘experienced mariner’ might be more apposite, Noelle.
