What does the Penshaw Monument commemorate?

Good question, Lynette. Properly called ‘The Earl of Durham’s Monument’, it’s a 70 foot high replica of the Temple of Hepheastus in Athens and stands on a hill 446 fet above sea level. It can be seen from miles around in most directions.

Yes, Joni. They don’t fish as much as they did 20 years ago, apparently. But we occasionally come across a lone fisherman, or sometimes even a small family group. The lake is not visible from the road that runs a good 400 yards away, so only locals and members of the fishing club know about it.
