Creative #Writing #Contests Table Updated

zTintern Willow

Time to remind you the writing contest table has been updated. It lives on the ‘Resources’ page. You’ll notice there remain some details for 31st August. That’s because this post had to be scheduled, as I’m away from home (and therefore offline) until 4th September, when I’ll delete the older lines. I’m at the launch of my latest novel, Return to Dust, manning the bookstore and signing copies at Fantasticon 2018 in Cleethorpes.

Some contests are free to enter and offer as much as £20,000 (novel), £500 (poem), £2000 (review), $3000 (essay). The table currently offers contests with entry dates from September 2018 through to March 2019.

Submit your entries in plenty of time. There are spectacular prizes to be had. Please don’t be sucked in by false arguments complaining about ‘paid for’ contests: most are run by voluntary organisations with little money. Entry fees provide prizes and sometimes pay judges, who are usually professional people in the writing world whose time is precious.

Think of the kudos if you win!

The table updates every time I save it, so whenever you visit, it’s as current as it is on my PC. You can access it by clicking here. Have fun and get some cash from your writing.

I subscribe to a few sources (some costing money, and all taking up my precious time!) for information to pass to you here. If you’d like to help me keep producing this resource and pay for those sources, please consider clicking the green ‘Buy me a Coffee’ button at the right of any tabbed page. It’ll cost you about £3.00. Thank you.

If you’d like a monthly reminder in your email, please click the ‘follow this blog’ button at top of the right-hand column and add your details on the small form. Neither I, nor WordPress, will spam you, but you’ll receive an informative email each time I post.

And the picture above? A spot of inspirational imagery.

I’m also a photographer and belong to an organisation called Picfair that believes photographers should be paid for their work (photography is expensive!). You can find the original of the picture above here. And my gallery of work on the site, here.

  1. Hi Stuart! We ( are currently running a nonfiction short story contest to motivate people to share their stories and create an inspirational environment. It is not a literary contest, but it is a nice exercise to get comfortable with sharing stories. And hopefully we can all inspire others and make an impact!

    1. Sorry for the delay in response; just back from my break.
I generally only list either ‘free to enter’ contests or those offering a main prize at least 20x the entry fee. As yours is a charitable concern, I’ve added the details for the October period. Hope that helps your organisation.
