In this continuing series I’m looking at things seen when out walking. Some of the objects will be familiar to certain readers, but many are likely to be unfamiliar to most. I’m presenting those that caught my attention through their incongruity, idiosyncrasy, or simply their odd appearance.
This one was taken on a weir on the River Arno as it flows through Florence. Much of the concrete structure was well clear of the water and we were able to walk along a good stretch of it. But the previous winter had clearly washed a number of mature trees along the course of the waterway and one of these was stuck on the concrete barricade. A clever artist had gathered and woven this representation of a dog out of smaller branches and twigs and left it there for others to delight in.

Some people are so creative. Such a lovely little find, Stuart.

We first noticed it from the other side of the river, when we were making for the bridge in the picture. Intrigued, we then just had to find our way onto that weir, which proved to be an interesting route.

I thought so, too, Noelle. I love it when imaginative people with some skill turn discarded stuff into something meaningful.

Yes, Noelle, to make something representative of life from the dead discards of nature takes real talent.
