Oddities Observed On Outings #12

The Tree That’s a Plant Pot

In this continuing series I’m looking at things seen when out walking. Some of these objects will be familiar to certain readers, but many are likely to be unfamiliar to most. I’m presenting those that caught my attention perhaps by their unusual placing, incongruity, idiosyncrasy, or simply their oddness.

This one shows an imaginative use of a hole in the trunk of a mature and thriving tree. Someone, and I suspect it was the person living in the house across the road from this tree, has planted a flowering plant into that hollow. I came across this on the Greek Island of Skiathos as we walked along a rural road on the way to Megalos. The tree seemed unaffected by the addition, and I thought it made a pleasant combination.

    1. When I first spotted it, I wasn’t sure what I was seeing. Closer examination soon revealed the reality of the plant positioned in the hollow of the tree. A lovely idea!

  1. Stuart that is an absolutely gorgeous tree. Oh how I would love to curl up on her limbs and nap. The flower being planted was a lovely addition and thank you so much for sharing this with us. Hope you and Valerie are both doing well. 🦋

    1. Thank you, Joni. You’d be able to nap there undisturbed by traffic, too. We walked to the beach from here and then came back along the same road. At no point did we see or hear a vehicle!
We’re both well, thanks. How about you?
