My photos in this continuing set of series depict our beautiful world in the hope of encouraging viewers to share them and help save our unique home from human carelessness.
Today’s photo is a winter shot of the River Wye that begins in Wales and runs through a valley, part of which is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The river flows through part of the Forest of Dean where it also functions as the boundary between England and Wales. This shot was taken from the English side and shows part of Wales.

    1. Thanks, Mick. Canoes are popular on the river, and we often see them gliding by, occasionally getting stuck on the shallows beside the small island that can only be identified by the tree branches poking through the flood in this shot. During the summer, the water here is shallow enough to allow potential swimmers to wade across to that small island. Sometimes, they sunbather there, too. We haven’t yet braved the canoe trip, but it’s possible we may attempt it this year.

    1. Thanks, Lynette. The river was very full after prolonged rain, especially in the Welsh mountains where it emerges, but it was a peaceful flow we encountered after a pleasant lunch at a local pub well above the river.

    1. There is a public footpath running along the length of the river, Noelle, and it also tracks up the hill to one side. But the land itself belongs to a wealthy family who tolerate rather than welcome walkers. Fortunately, there are places on both sides of the river where ramblers can stop and sit to enjoy the peace and the view.
