#ScenicSaturday 2nd December 2023

My photos in this continuing series show our beautiful world in the hope they’ll encourage viewers to help save it from human carelessness.

Last month, I concentrated on my local area, specifically the Forest of Dean. So, those of you who love the seas or oceans may have felt a little left out. I’ll try to compensate for that this month, still sticking to the UK, so you’ll find pictures from England and Wales (it’s decades since I visited the truly stunning landscapes of Scotland, and I’ve no digital images from my last trip, which was to the beautiful Isle of Skye way back in the 1970s).

Today’s photo shows sunshine casting an autumn cloud’s shadow over the flat sandy beach of Rossili in south Wales. We spent a pleasant week here a couple of years ago. Our room in the local hotel overlooked the bay, so we saw it under all the different weather conditions we experienced that week. Mostly, the beach was quiet, but we saw a group of four surfers on one occasion, and on another, a film crew shooting a scene for a TV programme called ‘The Luminaries’. There were, of course, the usual dog walkers, both visitors and locals.

The bay is wide and the sea relatively shallow for some distance from the shore. But what will happen as sea levels rise is unknown, though Rhossili Down, a steep hill overlooking the sands and rising to 193 metres (633 feet), should remain pretty safe! The wider coast gives some lovely walks and you’ll find an illustrated post about that here.

If you’re looking for pictures for almost any purpose, you’ll find 2,500 large HD images on Picfair, which can be bought for a small sum as digital files, or as art quality prints on paper or canvas. My small portion of the fee helps maintain the gear and software quality digital photography demand. Thank you.

    1. Thanks, Keerthi. If you click on the picture, it should appear at a larger size. You could then take ‘screen print’ and use it for either purpose if you wish.

  3. What a beautiful photo, Stuart. I love the ocean (which I am enormously enjoying right now). It sounds like you had a very relaxing holiday week there. Cheers.

Just so that you know, I couldn’t get your embedded link to work.

    1. Thank you, Lynette. Good to hear you’re enjoying your retirement.
There are 5 links in the post, which one didn’t work for you? I’ve just tried them all and they work for me, so it would be useful to know which one is not linking for you.

  4. You knew I would like this! I swam off a beach in Wales once- the water was delightfully warm! I would walk this beach every day and swim as often as possible!

    1. I did, Noelle. We were there at the end of September into October. The only living creatures we saw in the sea were dogs, and a group of four surfers all clad in wetsuits. It was definitely too chill for me! But I know you enjoy cold water, along with a growing number of people it seems.
