#ScenicSaturday 1st July 2023

My photos here show how beautiful is our world. I hope to encourage viewers to help save it from our carelessness.
This one shows a newly created space on the right following the felling of some diseased trees in the Forest of Dean. Climate change has increased the incidence of tree infections, resulting in the cutting of large numbers of mature trees. These are so fundamental to the health of the environment, their loss is catastrophic over time. Multiple wildfires, and those deliberately started in the name of agriculture, have destroyed literally billions of mature trees worldwide. We are, in a very real sense, burning our world. Maybe it’s time to revisit our priorities?

If you’re looking for pictures for almost any purpose, you’ll find 2,500 large HD images on Picfair, which can be purchased for a small sum as digital files, or as art quality prints on paper or canvas. The small fee helps me maintain the gear and software quality digital photography demands.

    1. Thanks, Noelle. The answer to your question is unknown. It’s been known as the Forest of Dean since around 1066, but whether the ‘dean’ comes from ‘dene’ an early word for a valley, or from ‘din’ a Welsh word for a hill fort, or from some other source is not known.
