Thanks for sharing your piece about your trip. Sorry to hear that you initially weren’t feeling well. I think that tourist services are going to be a bit of a scramble this year as the industry tries to get back on its feet. The airport chaos here has been a scandal. I am starting holidays soon and our home is in a popular wine and beach area, but things seem to be running okay, at least for now.

Yes Lynette, at present in the UK the situation seems to be getting a little worse, but that’s largely due to the incompetent morons we have as a Government! The travel companies and airports are doing their best with what they have.
Enjoy your holiday; you deserve it!

Thank you very much, Stuart. I agree that they are coming from behind and doing the best they can. People should remember that and stop complaining. I find the criticism really unfair in most of these cases.

I suspect the greatest cause of frustration for prospective travellers is the lack of information. People are arriving at airports only to be told, on arrival, their flight has been postponed or cancelled. Such news should really be given in advance where at all possible. But airlines are notoriously poor in providing information. We’ve suffered it on a number of occasions – flight delayed and no explanation, no suggestion of how long the delay will be, etc. I think it’s this sort of behaviour that creates most of the complaints.

In Canada it has mostly been around the shortage of available flights on the busy routes (the airlines scaled back and are now trying to ramp up again, but you can only work with the number of trained staff that you have and aircraft that gave to come out of storage). However, the big airlines are selling seats that they don’t have and then crossing their fingers. Brutal!
My little corner didn’t lose much because we were seconded to provide medevacs and otherwise did our usual passengers and freight. The government didn’t help with the vaccine requirements and a serious staff shortage to do the checking.

Here in the UK, Lynette, the Government largely left the travel industry to sort out the mess left by Covid restrictions the Government imposed, which hardly seems fair. So, they’re now dealing with staff shortages for both airlines and airports, something over which they have little control. But, unfortunately, the airlines are also selling tickets for flights they don’t currently have, and that, of course, adds to the chaos and the frustration for passengers. They’ll eventually sort everything out, but we certainly won’t be flying again in a hurry!

Yes, I agree; it will get sorted out. People need to be patient, too, though, and understand that the travel industry was mostly shut down for two years, so it’s going to take more than a few weeks to get it going again. We’re not travelling this summer. It’s just going to be hiking, beaching, eating and sitting on the deck with a nice glass of wine. 🙂

Yes, we normally go away for our wedding anniversary. This year it’ll be somewhere relatively local rather than overseas.

Walking, esp when the weather is nice (not too hot!) is great exercise and stimulus fr the mind!

It is indeed, Noelle. In fact, I’ve just returned from our daily walk in the forest. The weather today is a bit unsettled, but we managed to choose a period when the sun was shining. A touch blustery, and, as we passed under an old tree on one of the main tracks, it shed a fairly large branch, which caught Valerie on her head and shoulder. How it missed me I can’t imagine. She’s okay; a small bump but no permanent damage I’m pleased to say.

What a great trip – walking is such a good way to get to know a place.

I agree, Bill. Probably the best way to really get to know a place.

Thanks, Darlene. Yes, we both enjoyed ourselves more once the weather improved and we felt better.
