#Words and #PictureOfTheDay: 10/Apr/22

How many years have passed you by, old oak?
How many people trod the narrow path beside you?
What do you know of a world where we are fleeting?
What might we learn if we could only talk with you?
And would we benefit from your ancient wisdom
Or continue on our wasteful and destructive way?

We live among natural wonders. Some people ignore and others actively dislike such beauty, even working to destroy the only world we can inhabit.
These daily posts are my encouragement of joy in nature, hoping to inspire you to share my love of a planet that’s a marvel of unlikely coincidences.
Are we alone in the universe as a living species with sentience? We may never know. We’re unlikely to meet, or even effectively communicate with, other sentient lifeforms, because of the vast distances in time and space involved.
So, we should live as though we are the only life form conscious of our existence and able to modify our environment. We can do that to benefit all life forms, or entirely selfishly in the mistaken and ultimately self-destructive belief we’re apart from nature. History, science, and common sense show us daily how intricately we’re part of nature. Perhaps it’s foolish and self-defeating to ignore this simple fact.
If you want to spread joy in our wonderful planet and encourage our responsibility to protect it, will you share these posts on social media (‘share’ buttons below make it simple), comment with your thoughts, and help us do our best to sustain our environment for the future? After all, Earth is our only home. Thank you.

        1. Not just fire, Joni, but the growing threat of fierce storms. Yesterday, we took a walk along a route we rarely travel and came upon an oak, at least 400 years old, that had been felled by a powerful gust of wind. So sad to see such a specimen spread on the ground.
