    1. That’s a lovely metaphor, Brenda. Of course, a weed is simply a plant growing in the wrong place. A tree in a cornfield, a rose in a baseball pitch, a wheatear in a lawn could all be considered weeds; it’s just a matter of location.

    1. There are some 250 varieties of this ubiquitous wildflower, Lynette. A garden nuisance they may be, but they form an essential food source for pollinating insects during the spring, before many other plants are in flower. I’ve always loved their bright intrusion into the fields, and their delicate seed heads, which make great photo subjects at all stages of development.
