Today’s Pictures: 2 Jan 21

The low winter sun brightens the forest floor among the oaks.

A new year, but this project, begun at the start of April last year and aimed at bringing joy to those confined indoors because of Covid 19, continues. As we enter winter here in the forest surrounding my home, I’ll vary the pictures to show scenes from sunnier times. After all, the intention here is to share enjoyment, and pictures of dull days will rarely achieve that aim.

Snow.
Sun and snow on a narrow track.

We’ve had our first snow and frosts. How many more days of such weather will visit us is an unknown. The valley in which our village sits has its own micro-climate and we often find our days are dry when just over the hill they’re receiving a soaking, or across the river they’re baking under the sun when we’re dodging raindrops. Whatever happens, I’ll try to give you pictures to brighten your day. Some will be from overseas, too. And others will be from different parts of Britain, as the mood takes me. I hope you’ll enjoy them.

The more people who share these posts on social media to their friends and follower, the more people we will reach. And it’ll also show more of them our wonderful world. Maybe, between us, we can restore some love and respect for nature and slow down the damage we’re doing to our environment. Thank you.

And some summer sunshine, here on the Gower Peninsula in South Wales.

  1. Lovely photos, I like your idea of sharing photos to help brighten up people’s day during this COVID pandemic. I have tried to do the same with my blog although of late I have struggled due to work commitments & just sheer lack of motivation since the start of the colder winter months.

Keep up the great photos, they’ve put a smile on my face. Thank you.

    1. Thanks, Ryan. I like your photos, too. One of these days I’ll invest in a macro lens to get those sumptuous close-ups!
It’s probably easier for me to share, as I’m no longer employed and now work, as a retired man, as and when it suits me. Mind you, I don’t know how I found time to go to work before: I’m busier now than I ever was when working for a living!

    1. Thank you, Noelle. People were surfing in the sea when we were in Wales. But we hadn’t expected to swim ourselves at the end of September, so had no costumes with us. And we felt the locals might be a bit alarmed if we went skinny dipping!

    1. Thanks, Lynette. That first one is in a part of the forest we particularly enjoy. It’s quiet and quite open. The sun finds its way through the canopy and there are a few spots that feel so welcoming, we can imagine social gatherings there in earlier times.

    1. Thanks, Joni. Snowed again overnight, against all expectations. Still only a thin layer. Hoping the grey cloud will retreat and give us some sunshine soon!
We spent a lovely New Year’s Eve together, and concocted a special meal fro the following day, so a good time. Hope all goes well for you and Scott in 2021.

      1. I am so glad you enjoyed your New Years. We did too. It was so nice to be around our favorite couple in our neighborhood. I probably talked too much as it was so nice to converse with friends over a wonderful meal. Hope the sun peeks its head out soon for you two. It has been cloudy and rainy here as well. Have an amazing day my friends. Give Valerie my best. Hugs 🤗 Joni

    2. Thanks, Joni. The snow is slowly melting, but it’s still biting cold out there. Yesterday’s walk was 6 miles. Today we did just half that distance, but it’s always so spiritually refreshing to be among the trees.
I’m starting the 10 day travel challenge today, too!

    1. Thank you, Brenda. Years of experience, coupled with an appreciation of composition gifted me by my artist mother in my youth, seem to combine to create some pictures people like. The world is, mostly, a beautiful place and it seems natural to share our own portion of it.
