Today’s Pictures: 1 Aug 20

I thought I’d give you a forest road today. This one probably follows what was a railway line till the middle of last century.

If you’re unable to get outdoors to enjoy nature at present, this series is for you. I’m aiming to brighten the days by posting pictures of natural beauty.

A new month, and here in the UK we continue to receive conflicting advice. I fear the same goes for a number of other countries. Governmental incompetence seems to have become its own pandemic! So, I say, keep safe and stay well, folks!

On the other hand, if you can go where you like, perhaps you’ll do what you can for those less fortunate by sharing this widely, so others can enjoy it? Thank you.

  2. Canada seems to be one of the countries handling the situation sensibly, Lynette. But so many others are giving confusing information, or trying to ignore it altogether. Boris Johnson and his cronies still can’t quite make up their minds whether they want to go for ‘herd immunity’ or restricted access to the country, so they’ve alternated between the two and caused confusion. The fact that his top advisor broke his own quarantine rules and was not sanctioned as a result has encouraged many people to take the situation less seriously. We’ve had mass gatherings, parties, raves, all without any concern for social distancing. And now the Gov’t has decided those most at risk because of underlying health issues should come out of isolation and go back to work!
    I’m glad we’re retired; I’d hate to be working in the current situation. But, at least we don’t have the lunatic Trump in charge, or the totally uncaring Bolsonaro.

    1. Agreed. It’s been really difficult watching what’s happening in the US. I thought Johnson had smartened up after his covid illness, so I’m sorry to hear that he’s still bumbling around and trying to pretend that he’s some sort of absent-minded genius by refusing to comb his hair.

      Yes, it’s not easy working through this pandemic; it has been stressful and we’ve been very overloaded, and more than once I’ve envied those who are retired. A couple of my colleagues retired this month. I have another two years …

      1. Johnson’s pretence of the bumbling genius is just that. Most of what he does is calculated. His only concern is to keep himself and his wealthy cronies in power and well-heeled. Everything he actually does belies his promises of improving the lot of the underprivileged. He’s a self-serving elitist who is willing to sacrifice the country for his own ends.
        I wish you well with your remaining work, Lynette. Let’s hope they find a way to deal well with this pandemic, eh?

  3. Our federal government has done pretty well throughout this pandemic – quite steady and measured. Cases have gone up a bit through the summer among those under 39, and there are increasing interventions from police on people trying to have big parties, for instance, but our federal and provincial gov’ts are handling it relatively well. We’re locking up more tightly as a nation and loosening up within while observing safety protocols.

    Do you think that your PM contracting covid has had an impact on how the pandemic is being handled?
