Today’s Picture: 17 May 20

In this part of the forest, it’s easy to walk wherever the moods takes you; there are some tracks, but never any need to follow them. It’s possible to feel really at one with Nature here.

I began this series with pictures taken on our daily forest walks. The hope then, as now, was to brighten the day for those people confined indoors during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the UK, rules on outdoor activities have been relaxed, so people can travel away from home for exercise. Such freedom isn’t global, and may be curtailed in the UK if infection rates rise again. So, I’ll continue to post daily pictures, taken outdoors, but they may now be of other places, to inject some variety.

If you find pleasure in this, please share it, so others can enjoy it, too. Thank you.

    1. There’s a possibility this part of the forest was once used for a film – Parts of BBC’s ‘Merlin’ and some scenes in one of the Star Wars films were shot just up the road at a place called Puzzlewood. In the trees in this part of the forest there are occasional temporary shelters with their hearths set up, and there’s local gossip that these were in some way involved with the filming! Who knows?

  2. Stuart this is so lovely, these wise old giants against the blue sky and gorgeous clouds. What an amazing place you have to walk. I trust you had a blessed day. Love Joni

    1. Thanks, Joni. It is an amazing place. Something we never take for granted. Yesterday, with England having lifted some restrictions, some parts of the forest had visitors from outside the area, but we were able to ‘escape’ to those parts few from outside know. Wonderfully serene to be alone in tune with Nature.

        1. Thanks, Joni. This morning we went across the valley and climbed up the steep slope on that side. I’ll be posting a picture from there later today. It’s part of the ancient forest, with some oaks and beeches that are very old. The track is very steep in parts, but well worth the effort. Last time we visited, we came upon a small herd of Roe Deer. None this time, unfortunately. But it’s wonderfult to be in the trees and to look down on the valley that holds our little village.

          1. Oh I can’t wait to see it. How wonderful to see deer there. I hope you got a picture of the little village as well. I am very curious about what you see there. When I told my husband about the history he actually knew some of the background. Just fascinating to me. The valley must be amazing also. You are truly blessed to have such an ancient forest by where you live. I will be watching for your post. We have a herd of twelve deer that come into our yard from the woods and it is such a treat. They eat the leaves and moss. You must get a sense of what it was like to be alone in nature two centuries ago as I am guessing it is quiet there as well. Can’t wait to see your photographs. Thanks for letting me know Stuart. Love and blessings Joni 🌸🌺
