Running and Writing for ME/CFS No.24

Running:

This week I ran all three of the set runs in the programme. Fifteen minutes through the forest, with the birds chirruping their joy in Spring on Wednesday. Twenty minutes on Friday, extending the same run. And then a short; ten minutes on Sunday, running up the steep rise of Church Road, down the rutted track onto the village road and along as far as the Working Men’s Club. Then the return along the main street past the Village Hall where I go for my art class and on past the GP’s surgery and to the end of Church Road again until I climbed the steeper rise to the house. Not a bad series, though the hills are making my knees ache a little. Still, that will pass as I become more accustomed to the terrain here.

The accompanying picture is a view I came across today, whilst walking with my wife; it’s on my short run route.

Writing:

Began the editing process at the very end of the week, as I like to give a piece of writing a little time alone before I return to it with something of a fresh view. Discovered, after the first chapter, that I’d missed a short chapter, so wrote that one. Found some beta readers for when the editing is done, so I’ll be able to send it off to these wise folk for their comments and observations before I start the process of actually producing the book.

Using some of the techniques I’ve learned in the art class to design a background for the proposed cover. I’ll see how that goes before I decide whether to engage a professional artist. I want to keep costs down, as half the profits are going to charity. If you’d like to contribute to my fundraising efforts for Action For M.E., please click this link and take the easy steps to make a donation. Thank you.

  1. I’d love to walk (not run) through the woods, but couldn’t find dry land unless I dug down through two feet of snow. I’m so sick of winter. Your jaunts sound so relaxing, I’ll be living vicariously through you.

    1. It’s spring here, Sue: the vernal equinox occurs on Friday. In a few days, the bare branches will sprout green from the myriad buds, the birds are already calling for their mates and filling the air with their sounds of joy, the undergrowth is starting to stir and just beginning to tint the winter’s brown with fresh green promise. My wife and I walk in the forest every day if we can. On our doorstep, it’s a wonderful sanctuary from the rush and bustle of life and allows us to refresh our spirits with its serenity and peace. If you visit my FB page, you’ll see some of the pictures I take on these walks, perhaps gain some comfort from the burgeoning season of new growth. And, in the meantime, wrap yourself in your writing to banish your winter blues.
